I love that they got it together! I see that asking WWYD questions about things like miscarriages or the passing of a child in a productive way during premarital counseling can be a great foundation for keeping a couple's "oneness" together in the future. Obviously, you can plan to have the best coping behavior and level of communication, but you never know 100% what you'll do in the moment. Still, the conversation being had honestly can be great for understanding your partner's mindset.

I think a lot of Black mothers from yester-year don’t want to admit that they fell for the okey doke…they thought having kids by men who weren’t going to raise them or by men who would mistreat everyone in the household was the ‘play’ and they played themselves in the end. They see what many of us have achieved on our *own* and the freedoms we have fought for and afforded ourselves through hard work and dedication. They see how many of us are *CHILDFREE* and like it that way and how we travel or own property or whatever and they wish they’d had the courage and sheer audacity to dream bigger for themselves but got up in the *fantasy* of things instead of seeing the reality of their situation. When they said don’t ’mess up like them’ we LISTENED (which they probably didn’t expect) and now we are reaping the rewards of their warnings and thriving in larger numbers than ever before! Naturally, that will cause mixed feelings from the very same women who wanted better for their daughters but don’t know how to reconcile that with the envy they hold deep down that we did what they couldn’t.

Loved this. Alternative take- Love/Romance/Marriage SCAMS are a multi BILLION dollar INDUSTRY- Being single is a blessing in disguise and rejection is a USUALLY protection. Some men are marrying for resources Some are marrying to prey on our children Some are PAID to date you Some are PAID to NOT date you And men DO be out here doing love spells on women-and vice versa 💯 And not because they “love you so much” but because they WANT to break you down/CONTROL you- Y’all stay safe AND fearless❤

_Most BM are not looking for a relationship they're looking to control women while they bring little or nothing to the table! If you get into a relationship with a BM; your handle everything pretty much alone which most BWs are saying they're not signing up for that BS!_

The biggest thing is committing to do the work. Relationships take deliberate effort to establish and even more effort to sustain.

How do you know that someone is really committed to the relationship though? There's no shortage of people who've said they are committed to making the relationship work and then wind up leaving.

❤thanks for sharing ❤cause a lot of people would say you don’t get alone with your mother no I don’t she don’t talk to me cause I’m 46 years old now and I have boundaries she child abused me I’m the first sibling to have grandkids she started hitting my grandson and my granddaughter and I told her don’t hit them she got mad at me like I didn’t get removed from her house hold by a judge for child abusing me at 10 years old and I got hit by a stray bullet and she didn’t help me at 22 years old I had kids under 10 years old she didn’t come over to help us

From a woman’s perspective, the reason why is a lot of them have nasty attitudes and fake nice. If my sister hadn’t snagged my brother in law (pregnant) she wouldn’t be married. Even her son said it on vacation last year. The end.🫣‼️‼️

Sometimes as a 49 year old woman, I think about my mother's state of mind at my age. I see the cutest little girls and I can see their whole future. I can see their beauty, I can see their talents, I can see their magic and their energy and their innocence, then I understand why my mother was jealous. As little girls we don't see what they see... the sad thing is a jealous mother always wants to snuff out your light. She's a bitch and evil and totally unconscious. And she does nothing to be more conscious.

I am 49 and still cry over how the woman who raised me treated me as a child. My biological mother abandoned me and I was takin into the care of my aunt who became my mother. She could be so kind and classy, yet behind closed doors, I became her punching bag. At the ages of 7-14, I was beaten with cable cords and often slapped in the face for reasons I can't recall. The slaps to my face was like assaulting my soul. I was thinking last night about how skinny she was and how she would wear rings, so when she would back hand me... I could feel the force of her finger bones and rings followed by the hate in her eyes. She would accuse me of teasing her boyfriends when I was only 8/9 years of age. She once slammed the car door on my fingers in a rage because her boyfriend was looking at my behind. I was only 8. By the time I turned 9, I would be praying for God to take my life. Into adulthood, this woman died turning family against me by lying and not being honest about her abusive ways towards me. I was the only child she cared for, she had an insurance policy for 50K and only left me 7K.. the rest went to my cousin who came into her life later on. I was always there being a shoulder she could cry on, I would actually fight some of those boyfriends who would abuse her, I moved her away from an abusive man when I became an adult and helped her get back on her feet... the whole while, I felt she hated me. No matter what I did to show my love and loyalty, there was always hate in her eyes for me. A STINGING hate. She is deceased now and to this day I don't MISS Her ONE BIT. I am the happiest I've ever been in life. Married 15 years, living in a beautiful town and so rested up. My one regret is not leaving as soon as I turned 19. I kept trying to be in her life. I should have left.

In regards to relationships, men and women need to be open to criticism, new ideas etc. In the 21st century, we should be at a point as Blacks that you can figure certain things out and come into a relationship or marriage with a certain realistic understanding and perspective! The whole man being the dominant entity in a home was based on the financial resources he provided and therefore sustained the home. That’s not the case today! Women and men are bringing resources to home and now things need to be balanced and it has redefined the Black Household! When you fight against, you (women and men) will continue to have challenges in dating or marriage!

It’s fab that so many African American / Caribbean British women have got their degrees. Well done to all of them.I’ll bet many of them would like to get a MRS marriage degree too. However as the comic Joan Rivers said, men don’t look up women’s skirts for degrees. As the funk band the Barkays said, attitudes your attitude describes you.

I have had a very hard relationship with my mother who also had a very toxic relationship with her mother. We have gone through periods where we do not speak to one another. At this time, we have been having conversations so we can learn about why this has been so difficult for both of us. Our current relatiionship is not perfect but I've been able to heal somewhat realizing what she went through. It's tough.
